Vaccinations Spread Hope as Vaccinated Seniors Return to Their Daily Lives

The Covid-19 pandemic has been rough on us all. We’ve seen our beloved Senior Citizens struggle through illness, loss, and isolation. But, now we are witnessing vaccinated Seniors return to their daily lives with renewed vigor. With widespread vaccinations and diminished restrictions, an end is in sight. An end to self-isolation means older adults can enjoy social interactions in the community.

When Can Vaccinated Seniors Return to Their Daily Lives?

Seniors can resume activities they did before the pandemic once they are fully vaccinated. This means no more isolation! Social interactions are a crucial part of maintaining mental and emotional well-being. If you are vaccinated, take time to visit with others—especially people who have been lonely and isolated. Play board games, make crafts, and hug grandma!

What Counts as Fully Vaccinated?

Getting vaccinated is the first step in overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic. A person is fully vaccinated two weeks after the last shot. For example, if you got a two-dose version—Pfizer or Moderna—you are fully vaccinated two weeks after your second dose.

What’s Safe for Vaccinated Seniors?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that fully vaccinated people can start doing activities they did before the pandemic. For example, you can gather indoors with others. The CDC also lifted mask guidelines for those who are vaccinated. However, New Jersey still requires masks when indoors.

Do Seniors Need to Quarantine?

Vaccinated Seniors who live independently no longer need to quarantine if they’ve been around someone with Covid, says the CDC. However, if you start having symptoms, stay away from others until you have a negative test. Seniors who live in nursing homes should take more precautions and isolate themselves for 14 days after being exposed to the virus.
